Streetwise Group - the historical perspective
The courier industry is a competitive one, characterised by constant price pressure and an environment where, if you’ve been around for twenty odd years, everyone knows you. Much of Streetwise’s growth has been by acquisition.
Historically, much of the courier industry’s business has been around delivering packages on the same day as they are collected. And providing you could meet your customers’ service expectations, there was good money to be made.
Coming out of the recession of the early 1990’s, the business-to-business courier market began to look for lower cost alteratives to same-day delivery and since overnight delivery was generally less expensive, it became much more popular. With continued price pressure and the rise of email as a reliable and secure alternative way to deliver documents, overnight is now firmly established as the dominant courier service.
Latest projects
In September 2008 Streetwise launched ‘AtoZ Overnight’, a new courier brand focused on delivering parcels from a tightly defined set of Central London postcodes.
AtoZ Overnight is in many ways a reflection of the way the industry is going. It focuses purely on overnight delivery, offers a fantastic price point, and provides a service that sits neatly between small courier businesses that struggle to provide a competitively priced nationwide service, and national or international brands that often don't provide that essential human touch.
